What is Latin America ChildCare?
Latin America Childcare represents the largest integrated network of evangelical schools in Latin America and the Caribbean. Founded in 1963, the ministry has grown to include over 300 projects affecting more than 100,000 children in 21 countries. It continues to touch thousands of Latin Americans with the truth of the gospel...to equip them with the basic skills for competing in, and transforming, their society...and to give them the things dreams are made of: a future.
What makes Latin America ChildCare different from any other "big brother" organization, fostering dependence on U.S. support?
Each school is tightly identified with its local community, staffed and supported by local workers. Each school operates as an autonomous entity, under the umbrella of a local church board and the national Assemblies of God education department.
How important is the spiritual context to Latin America ChildCare?
Children learn...
- that they are made in the image of God,
- that God loves them,
- that Jesus Christ, as God's Son, demonstrated the depths of God's compassion in His treatment of the poor and downtrodden and in His sacrificial death,
- that the transforming power of Christ can surmount even the debilitating effects of poverty,
- that their own lives have a purpose and their souls, an eternal hope!
What is sponsorship?
Most of our children are able to be in school because a caring North American sponsor gives $32 per month. Sponsors provide for a specific child and receive a photo and annual updates on their sponsored child.
Who chooses which child I'll sponsor?
You may decide the country of the child you sponsor, and whether you want a boy or a girl...or you can leave all that to us.
Will I be able to correspond with the child I sponsor?
Yes, you are free to write as often as you like. You can even enclose your letters with your monthly gift and we'll see that your child gets them. You may receive periodic letters from your child as well (our staff will translate them into English before they're mailed to you).
What are my responsibilities as a sponsor?
- We ask that you send a monthly gift of $32 to help to provide things like a good education, nutritious food, medical care and the good news of the Gospel.
- We hope you'll want to write to your child at least once a year -- the children really enjoy receiving letters.
- Prayer is also a crucial part of your commitment. The children will not only be impacted by your giving, but also by your covenant to pray for them despite the miles between you.
- You're welcome to send an extra $15 at the child's birthday and at Christmas, which will be used to purchase a gift that your child will enjoy.
Can we send care packages?
Since customs problems make it nearly impossible to get a package through the mail intact, we don't recommend that you send them.
